Are The Foods You Are Eating Affecting Your Health?
Food allergies and food sensitivities can drastically affect your health and digestion. A food allergy can be very serious and result in anaphylaxis, which can be life-threatening. Anaphylaxis is a condition caused by the immune system after a person comes in contact with an allergen. Symptoms include difficulty breathing, itchy rashes, and low blood pressure.
Food sensitivities or intolerances are a direct result of how well your body can break down the food you eat. If you lack the proper enzymes in your digestive system, you are unable to break down certain types of food. Less severe reactions usually result in stomach pain, breakouts, gas, bloating, constipation or diarrhea.
The most common food allergies or sensitivities are to gluten, peanuts, shell fish, and cow dairy, including milk, cheese, Greek yogurt, sour cream, and butter.
The quality of our food and whether we can actually break it down is a big part of how healthy and happy we will be. Food allergies and sensitivities cause lots of inflammation in the body which can lead to chronic disease. Adding lots of fruits and vegetables to your diet is important because of their antioxidant and mineral values.
Organic foods usually contain more nutrients and less chemicals than their conventionally gown counterparts. As Hippocrates said, “Let food be thy medicine and medicine be thy food.”
Pick the good ones.
