Got Acid?  Neutralize with Minerals

There are two different types of acidity in the body.  The acidity in our stomach which is a healthy acidity helps us digest our food and protect us from harmful organisms.  The other type of acidity lies within our tissues.  This is the acidity that is harmful, causes inflammation and leads to disease.

Just as we need to maintain a constant body temperature at all times, our body needs to maintain a constant pH (acid-alkaline) level. A pH of 7 is neutral, below 7 is acidic, and above 7 is alkaline.  The pH of our blood is tightly regulated between 7.35 and 7.45 and must remain so for us to thrive.

The body's pH level can easily get out of balance through stress, sickness, emotional imbalances and an acidic diet. Acid-forming foods include meat, dairy, bread, pasta, sweets, caffeine, sodas and alcohol. These foods leave what is called an acid ash after digestion.  The body must then neutralize this acidity so that blood pH remains stable.

To neutralize and buffer excess acid the body uses minerals such as calcium, magnesium, sodium and potassium.  These minerals if not supplied by our diet, are taken from bone or less vital organs to maintain vital blood pH.  Depletion and imbalance is the result.  Mineral deficiencies can lead to all kinds of diseases such as osteoporosis, chronic fatigue, coronary heart disease, diabetes, disturbed digestion, ulcers, allergies, autoimmune disorders, leaky gut syndrome, pains and aches, low energy, unclear thinking, depression, etc.

 Candida albicans as well as cancer cells thrive in an acidic environment.  Hmmm!  That's interesting. Could this be a leading factor in yeast infections and cancer?

Adding minerals to your diet is extremely important for just about every process in the body, especially bone and muscle health, but it is also critical in maintaining an alkaline environment.   This important addition to your daily diet will help protect you from all of the above conditions and cultivate an unfriendly environment for Candida and cancer cells.

It is interesting to note that over acidity creates lots of inflammation in the body which leads to fat storage.  Acid wastes are sent to fat cells to protect the organs and cells of the body.  If you want to lose weight, you have to address over acidity. Actually, if you want to thrive you must do the same.

The minerals the body needs to build healthy tissue and remain alkaline can be found in a variety of fruits and vegetables such as lettuce, kale, spinach, broccoli, celery, beets, asparagus etc.  Sea algae such as spirulina, dulse and chlorella are also high in mineral content.  Organic versions of these fine foods have been proven to contain higher levels of minerals than their conventionally grown counterparts; however the depletion of our soils has had an impact on the mineral content of all foods to such an extent that it is extremely difficult to maintain healthy levels through food alone. Juicing organic greens is a great way to provide higher concentrations of minerals to feed our cells and support an alkaline environment.  

The easiest way to supplement your diet with alkalizing minerals is to take a “Green Drink” everyday.  These products have loads of greens such as alfalfa, wheat grass, barley grass, chlorella, spirulina, dulse, dandelion, kale, spinach, parsley etc.  Many products contain anywhere from 5 to 9 servings of veggies and fruit.  This is a great way to consume alkalizing veggies if your diet is not as good as you would like it to be.  A green drink could just make the difference between vital health and chronic disease.
